welding

i had signed up for welding at MTC every saturday for a few months. i was so excited - and then the class got cancelled. i looked for more classes and at the time, the chicago avenue fire arts center wasn't having classes until fall. but now that i look they had welding classes starting 4/15. i'm bummed. i have no idea what i was going to weld but the options are endless. now i'll have to wait until fall and my dreams of welding outdoor furniture won't be coming through until next summer. le sigh.  now if i could find a place that could teach me how to make concrete molds.

the poster show was last friday at the institute. we all worked super hard to make it happen and i think it came together really well. i had a blast and was happy with the turn out and how everything else managed to come together. giant thanks to my friends at aveda for the help. especially emily. above is my poster for the event and the poster i submitted. hard to photograph letterpressed white ink on white paper with moss sewn on but hey - we gave it a shot! pics of the event here. 

it was the perfect way to say good bye to aveda. in little over a week i will be working at illume as a creative manager with the likes of this lady & this lady can't wait. and i cut my commute by more than half. hallelujah!

i think something like this will be my first welding project once i finish  my welding class and become an expert. Via Chezerbey

we recently spent a week in palm springs at the ace hotel & it was glorious. it could have been that i was in a deep mn winter funk that only 75 degree weather could cure or that PS is just that awesome. either way – i thoroughly enjoyed myself.

the ace was spectacular. we loved our room with outdoor fireplace (although, had we known there would be so many public fireplaces we would have forgone the fireplace and went with the terrace). i loved the space and all the details. i took some photos myself but the following are mostly from remodelista.

our room was very similar to this one. main level - patio doors opening to patio with fireplace. lots of cool details and handmade leather stools & chairs that S plans to try to make soon.

the amigo room was the bar that made all the fab boozy drinks. we never had drinks inside but we walked through many times. i love the light fixutres

hammocks to lounge in the shade. we didn't partake because we were not willing to give up the sun.

we'd get up early and eat breakfast somewhere new every day - although cheekys was our favorite. then be by the pool before 10:30am & snag a spot with the best view. we spent most of our days there ordering the superb boozy drinks they concoct there.

sometimes we would order food from kings highway (food was average) so we wouldn't have to leave the pool - other times we went out. a favorite place was tylers. best burgers & fries!

we made sure to see other hotels & try their restaurants. i really wanted to get to mr. parkers at the parker but we never managed to get there. instead we went to norma's for breakfast. $18 waffles. seriously. but so good. and the eye candy was everything i needed. this was by far my favorite. even the adler salt and pepper shakers that i certainly would have nabbed had i been with anyone else but S.

we took an architectural tour of the city. you drive around with this map that cost $5.80 from the visitor center. the arch was awesome & regret not taking pics but i was too busy working on not getting car sick while trying to navigate. drew kora has some pics up on his tumblr although i think he didn't get the good ones.

we also took the tram to the mid mountain. did i mention how much i loved the mountains? coachella valley is very beautiful. i loved that the mountains seemed so close and you were literally surrounded by them. le sigh.

it was the best vacation i've had in awhile. i've even decided to refrain from washing the sweater i wore to the pool until summer comes to mn. i can't sacrifice the smell of pool & sunscreen. and a little tear escaped when i picked up the CB2 catalog and saw that they shot at the ace in ps. the cover is even 3 doors down from our room.

re-entry to reality hasn't been as cruel as i suspected but that might be because we are still being smothered in animal love.
